Some Freaky Tuna is a comic strip I originally published in the Sagebrush (the student newspaper of the University of Nevada, Reno) while I was an undergraduate student in the 1990s. I later self-syndicated the strip to a variety of newspapers and websites from August 2000 to April 2001. The self-syndicated version is what is found on this website. Perhaps one day I’ll scan in some of the original strips from the Sagebrush years, as well.
This website was initially established as a way to promote the comic strip, but I let my registration of the domain name (somefreakytuna.com) expire after I stopped doing the strip. The domain soon became home to some weird anime porn. In 2022 I noticed that the domain name was available again, so I claimed it and quickly rebuilt a basic version of the site as an homage to my terrible cartooning skills!
What the hell does “Some Freaky Tuna” mean?
I have no idea. One day in college, I overheard a guy in the campus newspaper offices say “That’s some freaky tuna!” The phrase captivated me, and I immediately changed the name of the comic strip I did for the paper from “Aargh!” to “Some Freaky Tuna.” Neat. We probably don’t want to know what that guy in the office was talking about.
